KANKAKEE—State Representative Lindsay Parkhurst (R-Kankakee) secured funding for the Kankakee YMCA to improve handicap accessibility.
Rep. Parkhurst backed HB64 authorizing funding from the State’s General Revenue Fund to local projects through capitol re-appropriations. As a result, the Kankakee YMCA is awarded nearly $44, 0000 to make their facility entrance handicap accessible.
“I supported this bill because state money is used for local projects. The YMCA asked me several years ago for assistance in securing funds to make their facility handicapped accessible. It took a while, but am happy to announce I did secure funding through this bill and the YMCA will be accessible to all,” said Parkhurst. “I spent a lot of time at the YMCA growing up and am glad to ensure the facility remains open and accessible to our entire community.”
The YMCA stated it will use the grant money for upgrades to the entrance and sidewalks for handicap accessibility.
