State Representative Lindsay Parkhurst (R – Kankakee) is a co-sponsor of House Joint Resolution Constitutional Amendment 34 requiring two-thirds approval by the General Assembly for any tax increases or new taxes. Representative Parkhurst issued the following statement after the Capitol press conference introducing the resolution:
“We just saw the rates increase before the Senate voted on this measure. These rates are subject to change and they will change. This amendment is simple. If proponents of the graduated tax are truly committed to protecting the middle class, then they need to make sure these rates are constitutionally protected by supporting a two-thirds vote to change the rates in the future.”
Thirty members of the Illinois House are co-sponsors of HJRCA 34.
Representative Parkhurst serves the 79th District, which includes portions of Kankakee, Grundy, and Will Counties.
