Rep Parkhurst Hosting Workshop to Help with US Citizenship Application

Kankakee, IL… State Representative Lindsay Parkhurst (R-Kankakee) is hosting a workshop to help legal U.S. immigrants navigate the complicated application process. The workshop is being held in conjunction with the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights and its partners. Volunteers from various local organizations will be on hand to help assist applicants in completing the necessary forms and documents to become a U.S. Citizen. The workshop will be held at Lisieux Pastoral Center in Kankakee on Saturday, November 17th beginning at 9:00 a.m. and running until everyone has been helped. 
“Becoming a U.S. Citizen is a huge honor and I know it is the culmination of a lot of hard work for immigrants and their families.” Rep. Parkhurst said. “If you or someone you know has been thinking about becoming a citizen of the United States, we want to help make the process easier for you.”
To be eligible for citizenship you must be a legal permanent resident of the United States for at least 5 years, or if married to a U.S. citizen, for 3 years. Applicants are advised to bring required documents with them to the workshop. These items are listed at Representative Parkhurst’s website or on the flier located at a number of local businesses and organizations.
