Kankakee, IL – State Representative Lindsay Parkhurst (R – Kankakee), together with One Light Self Defense, is hosting a free workshop for women and girls. The event will help them learn avoidance tactics, self-defense misconceptions, offensive techniques, and defensive escapes. The class is at the community room in the Kankakee Valley Rec Center on Friday, September 29th at 6:00 pm.
“The only thought scarier than becoming a victim of violence is being unprepared if the situation arises. Instructors from One Light will ensure women are prepared by teaching skills used in the event of an attack,” Rep. Parkhurst said. “This is a great opportunity for women and girls over 12.”
The One Light mission is to prepare people to avoid, face, and heal from physical violence. Since 2009, One Light traveled to Nairobi, Kenya to teach self-defense skills to girls and trainers who continue to carry on this skill transfer. One Light taught over 100 free self-defense workshops and trained over 2500 people in the United States. Thousands of dollars of donations from workshops are donated to Women At Risk International to use towards their emergency and safe house funds.
Space is limited and registration is encouraged. While the class is free, donations to One Light are appreciated. 100% of donations go to victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, or sexual assault.
