State Representative Lindsay Parkhurst, together with State Representative Margo McDermed (R-Mokena), toured the Manteno Veteran’s Home earlier today. The Kankakee County home opened in 1986. The facility, one of only 4 state run veteran’s homes, houses nearly 300 senior veterans
In addition to housing and caring for seniors, the Manteno facility holds the only state run veterans homeless facility. The Prince Program helps take homeless veterans off the street and addresses their root problems so that they are soon able to stand on their own two feet. The program opens up access to drug counseling, education, and jobs.
“I want to commend the great work being done by the staff at Manteno,” Rep. Parkhurst said. “They are doing everything they can to make sure our veterans are well taken care of, and rightfully so.”
