Parkhurst Releases Statement on House Rules

Springfield, IL… Today the House voted 63-53 to approve the House Rules set forth by Speaker Madigan. Below is a statement from State Representative Lindsay Parkhurst (R-Kankakee):

“It is disappointing after decades of state mismanagement my colleagues voted to reelect Speaker Madigan and today voted to strengthen his power base by approving his rules for the House. Consolidated power, no matter what party or person, is a hindrance to democracy. Republican Leader Jim Durkin’s proposed rules would enhance the House legislative process by providing more transparency to the public and reasserting the representative democracy we the people of Illinois deserve. Sadly, the House Majority voted to affirm business as usual with all the power in one Speaker.”
